ABOUT US
I am Franick Matthee, and I am the owner of Tidalwaves Basset hounds. I have been showing and breeding Basset hounds for close to 20 years! Tidalwaves is situated in the lovely Western Cape region of South Africa. The kennel is registered with KUSA (Kennel Union of South Africa) which is FCI affiliated. All our hounds are registered with KUSA.
You will find the pedigrees of all our hounds here: PEDIGREE DATABASE
I fell in love with Basset Hounds in the mid 1980's when my parent's neighbor got a Basset Hound, named Julian. It was love at first sight. He paved the way for my first basset, Marielle, a bitch which descended from old English bloodlines exported to South Africa. After that I required a few basset hounds from Martie and Pieter Muller at Stormwind. One of these were CH Stormwind Oscar of Tidalwaves. (Martie Muller has since then been a wonderful mentor to me!) Many basset hounds have joined and sadly left the Tidalwaves Kennel over the years!
Over the years Tidalwaves had many Champions , National Winners, Top Dog qualifiers and Supa Seven qualifiers in the show ring and has also helped to establish other winning kennels. Many of our basset hounds also joined family homes as pets, where they gave their owners just as much happiness and joy as our basset hounds have given us over the years.
I strive to breed Basset hounds of excellent conformation, good health and temperament. All our adults are excellent specimens of the breed. My hounds come from Champion lines, some from South African lines, but also Australian, European and American lines. To build the foundation of the kennel, I have imported quite a few basset hounds over the years as well
I do not breed very often and for that reason if you want to own a puppy from Tidalwaves, you have to be patient. Please complete the Puppy Application with your details and I will keep you up to date!
Please be warned: If you have been owned by a basset hound once, you will never want to own any other breed!! That said though, it is very important to make yourself aware of the nature and character of basset hounds before getting one just because they are so cute. They are not the breed for everyone and they can be quite a handful!!
Please enjoy your visit and feel free to contact me with any inquiries in regard to basset hounds.
